Porsche achieved a historic 18th overall Le Mans victory in one of the most dramatic races in the history of the event. Drivers Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb took the lead with just three minutes left on the clock as leading Toyota came to a stop on the start-finish straight.
Mark and his teammates Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard were in contention for victory heading into the night session but their 919 Hybrid spent a long time in the garage undergoing repairs. The reigning world champions were able to fight back to 13th overall and fifth in the LMP1 class.
The results put Porsche on top in the manufacturers’ standings of the FIA World Endurance Championship with 127 points ahead of Audi (95) and Toyota (79).
