For the fourth time this season Mark, Timo and Brendon took pole position in their Porsche 919 Hybrid. Like Fuji the race started behind the safety car due to wet weather conditions. Brendon took the first stint in the worst of the conditions, there were cars aquaplaning and many full course yellows but Hartley managed to keep the car in first position.
On lap 52 Timo took over the car and was close on track with the Audis and the sister car currently driven by Neel Jani, he fought for positions with all three cars and after the pit stops he was second behind Jani. The two Porsche 919 Hybrids swapped positions a couple of times with Timo ending up in front.
Mark took over on lap 115 and took on a set of slick intermediate tyres as the track had dried significantly, and soon it had dried enough for slicks. A pitstop on lap 154 for a top up of fuel and a final set of slicks saw him follow closely behind the sister car before their final stop, Mark brought the car home in first position with the No. 18 crew in second which sealed the Manufacturers’ Championship for Porsche in only their second year back in the WEC.
